South Florida Muslims Hold Bi-Annual General Body Meeting.

(Miami, FL  07/25/2020) – The South Florida Muslim Federation held its Bi-Annual General Body meeting on 07/25/2020 at 3:00 pm via Zoom with 43 members of the Federation participating to discuss South Florida Muslim affairs.

During the meeting, the Executive Committee presented the membership with important updates about Federation activities and accomplishments over the last 6 months. The updates included a welcome address by the President of the Federation, Samir Kakli, and the Executive Director, Nezar Hamze. During the meeting, the members of the Federation heard from Hamze about the recent activities of the Imams Council and Matrimonial Events, Yunus Ismail about the recent activities of the Social Service Council, Maha Elkollali Esq. about the recent Community Outreach activated and Federation Secretary Afifa Khaliq about Florida Muslim Capitol Day and Census.

Emgage founder, Khurrum Wahid Esq, joined the meeting and updated the community about (GOTV) Get Out The Vote efforts and the Federation unanimously agreed for each Masjid to support and assist Emgage with the GOTV efforts and drive Muslims to vote in the upcoming primary and general elections.

Yunus Ismail, Federation Executive member spoke about the members of the Social Service Council and the programs they are currently running to include: Economic Assistance, Hunger Prevention, Shelter Services, Free Medical Clinics, and Other Healthcare Services, Disaster Relief, Free backpack distribution, Refugee Services, and Youth Services.

Maha Elkollali Esq, spoke about community outreach efforts and recent events to include: Mandatory Reporting for Sexual and Child Abuse, Racial Justice Rallies and Coalition Building Efforts, Muslim Writers Club, SFL Muslim Community Spokesman and COVID impact training.

The second half of the meeting was to announce the partnership between the South Florida Muslim Federation and Tayyab Yunus founder and CEO of the Center on Muslim Philanthropy. A comprehensive strategic goal planning session was delivered by Tayyab and the Federation members have agreed to work with Tayyab to build capacity throughout SFL and invest in human resources and talent for the community future.
