Federation Leaders meet Miami-Dade School Board Members
On Monday August 29, 2022, South Florida Muslim Federation representatives Yunus Ismail, Imran Ali (Masjid Ihsaan), Gibson Lopez, Wifredo Ruiz (CAIR-FL), Afifa Khaliq, Naima Ghany, and Junaid Akhter met with the Miami Dade School District officials Mr. Ronald Redmon, Ms. Gloria Arazora and Dr. Derrick McCoy. The group held preliminary dialogue to recognize Muslim Eid Days as school day off within the Miami Dade School District.
The federation had several positive meetings with some board members, and a process was laid out to bring this to conclusion.
Broward and Palm Beach County School Boards have already recognized and declared Eid as day-off in their school calendars. This meeting was part of the efforts to have such a declaration in Maimi-Dade county as well.
