80+ US Muslim Organizations Call on DOJ to Investigate IPT
South Florida Muslim Federation has joined more than 80 Muslim organizations across US to sign and send a letter to Department of Justice urging to investigate the evidence of conspiracy and spying on Muslim leaders, organizations and houses of worship by hate groups.
The request came after CAIR released evidence of leak of its critical and sensitive information by CAIR-Ohio Director Romin Iqbal who had allegedly been acting as a spy for Investigative Project on Terrorism. Following the allegations, Iqbal was terminated in December 2021.
IPT has been alleged of targeting mosques, Muslim advocacy groups, individuals and organizations to illegally monitor and gather information. Muslim representative organizations have also requested to take necessary legal action against IPT for this surveillance.
Other national and local signatories include ICNA Council for Social Justice, EMGAGE, Institute of Social Policy and Understanding, ISNA, Muslim Advocates, USCMO, American Islamic Center of Florida, ICBR, ICW, Masjid Al-Ihsan, Sanad Trust Foundation and others.
A press release was also issued by CAIR in this regard. Read press release here.
